Julianne is Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Chief of Programs, where she advances the organization’s key initiatives with a focus on successful implementation, collaboration within the organization, and management of partnerships vital to PHS. Julianne joined PHS in 2014 as Director of Gardening Programs. She forged partnerships, developed resources and supported the programs that train community members, teachers, inmates and urban growers to garden, build beauty in Philadelphia, and increase production and distribution of produce for families without access to fresh, local food.

Julianne comes to PHS after working nationally and internationally to transform land use and empower communities to work toward sustainable and just food systems. As Director of the Citywide School Garden Initiative with GrowNYC, Julianne worked with government agencies and non-profit organizations to connect 400 New York City public schools with the funding, training, and materials needed to start and sustain learning garden programs.

Julianne also worked for over a decade at the Rainforest Alliance, an international conservation organization headquartered in New York, where she helped advance fundraising, monitoring and evaluation and branding efforts, and built and managed a dynamic education for sustainability program. She designed curricula and trained teachers from Brooklyn to Ghana in topics ranging from climate change to sustainable forestry and agriculture. Prior to joining the Rainforest Alliance, Julianne organized habitat restoration and environmental education programs, and conducted field research in marine biology, aquatic botany, wetland ecology, and fisheries.
