Wei Liu

Department of Commerce

Wei Liu is the Policy and Strategic Initiatives Manager at the Department of Commerce. He is a Chinese American who has been living in the United States for over 7 years and graduated from Temple University in 2021 with a B.S. in Statistical Science and Data analytics. Previously, Wei has been keen on community service and worked as a volunteer in several non-profit organizations and as an intern in the state government agency to help a lot of Chinese Americans with language barriers (Mandarin Chinese and Fuzhounese) deal with various difficulties in life. In addition, Wei also helped many low-income families apply for benefits to ease their living burden. In July 2022, Wei joined the Office of Community Empowerment and Opportunity (CEO) working as a Promise Zone Data Evaluation VISTA by applying his data analysis skills to help alleviate poverty in West Philadelphia and build a better community.  After a one-year VISTA term at CEO, in July 2023, Wei joined Philadelphia Department of Commerce as a Data and Research Manager to help build internal and external dashboards, manage the QuickBase Database, develop research narratives for Commerce in areas of policy, provide research and content for business attraction and retention, annual report, Commerce by the Numbers, and the City’s bond socioeconomic disclosure. For him, a fair food system means equal power, but it needs to be complemented by good and comprehensive policy and the ability to create for yourself, so that all those in need can benefit from it.
